#GlutenFree Deep Dish Carmel Apple Pie for #SundaySupper

Gluten Free Deep Dish Carmel Apple Pie for #SundaySupper

When I  saw our assignment for Autumn Apple Party #SundaySupper  I knew what dessert had to be made.  I started by making a crust. I love to create and sometimes I create fabulous food and sometimes I end with something Im just not sure what to do with. I was working on a crust about 6 months ago and looking for a crumbly press down crust and ended up with cookie dough. I wasn’t sure what to do and my husband looked at the creamy cookie dough and said I think we can do something with this and my Almond Cookie Crust was born!

Join us throughout the day this Sunday, September 23 as we share recipes and apple love from our talented #SundaySupper Group Contributors. We would love for you to share your favorite apple recipes during our#SundaySupper live chat at 7pm (Eastern).

1 ½ cup almonds
1 ½ cup Gluten Free Flour
1 ½ cup Powdered Sugar
½ cup butter
1 ½ cup vegetable shortening
8-10 apples peeled cored and quartered
½ cup brown sugar
3 Tablespoons cinnamon
3 tablespoons Corn Starch
Sheila Fretz’s (AKA Mrs MixIt) Famous Crumble
Cooking Spray
Caramel Sauce

1 Spring form pan
Food Processor
Measuring cups
a spoonula

Take almonds and gring up in food processor until fine but not into almond butter. I pulse and continue to watch.

Next add Gluten Free Flour ,Powdered Sugar and butter and pulse again.

Lastly add the shortening until a creamy drop cookie dough appears.

Take a spring form that has been sprayed with cooking spray  and place in pan pushing dough up sides and bottom.

Next peel and core plus quarter apples.Add sugar, cinnamon and corn starch then toss evenly and poor into uncooked pie dough.

Next make Sheila Fretz’s (AKA Mrs MixIt) Famous Crumble

Then place on top and seal in apples with crumble.
Next bake at 350 degrees  in oven for 50 to 53 minutes until golden on cookie sheet. Then chill for 4 to six hours then serve cold or reheat each piece separately in microwave

  7. The crust sounds like it's good enough to use for lots of different deep dish pie variations. Although, this one looks worth repeating!

  17. I'm not much of a thick pie crust fan but I wonder if this crust is lighter than normal crust. It looks gorgeous! Reminds me of Chicago Style deep dish pizza with apples instead.
